Department organised several seminars. In the year 2002 during the Platinum Jubilee Celebration Prof Tapan Roy Choudhuri delivered a lecture on ‘Rabindranath'.on the same year Prof. Barun de delivered a lecture on ‘relevance of maulana azad in the present context. in 2003 Prof Arun Dasgupta delivered a lecture on ‘Feudalism in Medieval Europe.' in 2007 Prof Chittabrata Palit and Prof Ranjit Sen commenced a lecture on 'mangal pandey-revolt of 1857'. In 2011, Department organised a UGC sponsored national level seminar in collaboration with political science and philosophy departments. thrust of the seminar was ‘visibility/invisibility of women in Indian perspective'. Prof, Tanika Sarkar of J.N.U. and Prof. Samita Sen, Director of Women Studies, J.U. were the distinguished speakers. Prof Subhas Ranjan Chakrabarty of erstwhile Presidency College had chaired the history session. Departmental students actively participated in different activities such as publishing wall magazines, participating in different seminars and talks, presenting their papers in college seminars and external competitions. Departmental students actively participated in a workshop on gender sensitisation funded by UGC/CPE. This Department organised an extempore competition on ‘Relevance of Vivekananda and his life'in 2013.
